The Ophthalmology Foundation held a full-day ophthalmic educators course in July 2026 in conjunction with the Malaysia Ophthalmology Scientific Congress with the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia. Ophthalmology Foundation faculty Dr. Karl C. Golnik and Dr. Meena Swaminathan gave lectures in addition to local faculty Dr. Sujaya Singh, Dr. Zalifa Zakiah binti Asnir, Dr. Zairah binti Zainal Abidinv, Dr. Evelyn Tai Li Min, Dr. Safinaz binti Mohd Khialdin, and Dr. Muzaliha Binti Mohamed Nor.
Participants learned techniques to improve teaching and assessing in the clinic and operating room through Surgical competency, Work-based assessment (OSCAR Phaco), Giving Effective Feedback, and Reflective Learning. The Leaders course was very well received, with participants reporting that it met their learning goals and was highly likely to influence their future teaching practices. Participants attended primarily to become better trainers. We thank the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia for a successful Leaders in Education and look forward to future collaborations.
