The Ophthalmology Foundation held a full-day ophthalmic educators course in May 2026 in Shantou, Guangdong, China, an initiative with the the Chinese Women’s Medical Association. Chaired by Dr. Karl C. Golnik and organized by the Program Director, Dr. Mingzhi Zhang, participants learned how to implement strategies to enhance teaching and learning in their residency programs. Other faculty included Dr. Meenakshi Swaminathan.
Participants learned how to recognize and remediate trainees’ performance issues, deliver effective feedback, develop structured curricula for any topic, and utilize artificial intelligence in their educational efforts.
Participants expressed that they achieved their goal of motivating their residents and improving their mentoring skills through techniques such as adding more interaction during theoretical lessons, gaining more feedback from residents, and focusing on specific guidance. We thank the the Chinese Women’s Medical Association for another successful Leaders in Education and look forward to future collaborations.
