Mexico Leaders in Education

Karl Golnik speaking at event in China

The Ophthalmology Foundation held a full-day ophthalmic educators course in June 2025 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico as an initiative with the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology and the Pan-American Council of University Professors of Ophthalmology. Chaired by Dr. Gabriela Palis and organized by the Program Director, Dr. Jorge Eugenio Valdez García, participants learned how to implement strategies to enhance teaching and learning in their residency programs.

Approximately 45 people attended and learned how to apply adult learning principles to their teaching activities, implement evidence-based principles for teaching in the classroom, clinic, and operating room, and use innovative tools to enhance teaching and learning.

Other faculty included Drs. Alberto Arntz, Kouatzin Aguilar Morales, Claudia Ascencio Tene, Manuel Garza, Antonio Paczka, and Juan Carlos Serna Ojeda.

Ninety-three percent of participants expressed that they achieved their goal of improving their teaching skills and are now motivated to change their teaching practices such as better mentoring, using AI in teaching, and having better communication with residents. We thank everyone who attended and look forward to future courses with the Mexican Society of Ophthalmology.
