The Ophthalmology Foundation’s One-to-One Mentoring Program has grown in 2025 and made life-changing connections among participants. The online program connects ophthalmologists with more experienced ophthalmologists that have demonstrated success in their fields of expertise to build a team relationship from which both can benefit.
We currently have 17 mentors from 8 countries and 39 mentees from 22 countries around the world. Mentees are typically seeking to grow their skills development, career progression, and work-life balance. Our mentors all have have medical teaching experience and have demonstrated success in their fields of expertise. They bring hard and soft skills including surgical training, communicating with patients, choosing a subspecialty, clinical skills, publishing, and growing in confidence. Mentees select a mentor based on their goals and the mentor’s skills. In 2025, 75 people found mentoring connections.
Our Mentoring Quality Score is 4.02 out of 5, determined by survey of participants’ relationship feedback and ratings over time. This represents the overall quality and success of our program!
“I’m truly grateful that I sought out mentorship in ophthalmology and found a mentor through the OF. My conversations with my mentor have supported both my personal and professional growth. Our calls have been an invaluable sounding board, offering guidance through a variety of work and life situations.
The mentorship that I have received has been highly beneficial and motivational. Having a safe space to connect with someone experienced, knowledgeable, and genuinely understanding has expanded my perspective in such a positive way. I’m excited for the opportunity to continue to learn, grow, and develop with the support mentorship has added to my journey.”
