Eyexcel 2025 is the annual flagship event of Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (the Public Health Wing of Aravind Eye Care System), where teams from around the globe gather in Madurai, India. This course helps teams apply a structured and scientific approach to training. Improving the effectiveness of training programs empower learners to be prepared to contribute meaningfully in the clinic or in the field.

This course prepares eye hospital teams to deliver high-quality training on a regular basis for allied ophthalmic personnel. Experienced faculty from Aravind, international guest faculty, and successful Eyexcel alumni will conduct this course. The course is highly interactive with the majority of time spent in practice and application. Each participant team meets daily with a facilitator to deepen exposure to the content and to apply it to the needs of the team’s institution.

Some of the objectives that participating teams learn include:

  • Use principles of adult education to maximize the learning of your trainees
  • Develop and impart training that will result in effective performance in the workplace
  • Launch a new training program; as well as improve or expand an existing program
  • Development and implementation of the training program

The Ophthalmology Foundation was proud to support two members of our Faculty Development Committee, Dr. Karl Golnik, Chair, and Dr. Pranesh Balasubramaniam, who led teams to meet their goals and objectives. Dr. Balasubramaniam reflected that “It was an honour to be part of this path-breaking workshop in my alma mater as an invited faculty member, alongside my mentor and an educator par excellence, Prof. Karl Golnik, representing the Ophthalmology Foundation…It’s a revolution, where the real-world transformation of global eye care training happens.”
