Accelerating the Development of Residents

In partnership with the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) Foundation, BVI is a sponsor of the Resident Excellence Award, which enables ophthalmology residents who exhibit exceptional performance in research, patient care, leadership, and education to attend the ASCRS annual meeting. This experience will provide residents with a robust education and an opportunity to make meaningful connections.
BVI also supports the foundation’s flagship program Operation Sight. Since 2014, Operation Sight has provided more than 10,000 charitable cataract surgeries to US residents in need.

Elevating the Skills of Surgeons

BVI is a founding industry partner of The Fundingsland Group’s Interventional Glaucoma Masterclass, an in-depth, expert-led program that seeks to equip learners with the latest advancements in surgical techniques. Fellows and early to mid-career surgeons who participate in this 30-hour educational program will gain valuable knowledge through mentorship exchange, didactic online modules, and in-person workshops, webinars, and wet labs designed and directed by renowned glaucoma surgeons.

I. Paul Singh, MD, a well-respected mentor, shared his thoughts on the collaboration, “BVI’s role as a founding partner of the Interventional Glaucoma Masterclass reflects their deep commitment to advancing ophthalmic education. Their support has been instrumental in shaping a culture of mentorship, innovation, and collaboration for emerging leaders in our field. The impact of BVI’s dedication to education is already profound—and will continue to elevate the next generation of glaucoma specialists.”

An early career surgeon, Ryan G. Smith, MD, summed up his experience, “BVI’s participation and sponsorship of the Intervention Glaucoma Masterclass was a welcomed addition. BVI provided fantastic teaching during their wet lab, and the company was eager to hear physician feedback as they clearly strive to incorporate physician input into their product improvements. As a prior ASCRS Resident Excellence Award recipient, I appreciate BVI’s dedication to education and commitment to partnering with physicians to provide the best care possible for our patients.”

Empowering Women in Eye Care

In line with its commitment to cultivate leaders, BVI hosted a brunch for women in ophthalmology during the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting. The women, who were at various stages of their careers, shared the challenges and triumphs they have experienced during their time in eye care. The event was designed to showcase their diverse journeys and build lasting relationships.

Lisa K. Feulner, MD, PhD, shared her thoughts on the experience: “That was truly one of my favorite events. Well done! I loved taking the time out of a very busy AAO schedule to gather with great women and share our experiences and support each other. Thank you for providing the platform and an amazing experience!”
