March 2025 Exam Candidates

Reflecting active participation
I recently received a heartwarming message about passing the clinical ophthalmology exam. For the preparation I used the AOO- CSC volumes, Review of ophthalmology 4th edition, as well as OKAPS review courses and cybersight eye questions as well as other resources. I didn’t leave behind any resource that I judged helpful. I was very anxious in front of the exam due to the recent advanced accreditation of my institution (RIIO) by OF, it was an occasion to prove that we were worth that accreditation. The exam reflected an active participation in daily clinical decision making in front of real patients. And the knowledge required to any young ophthalmologist practicing.

Strengthening my opportunity for fellowships
The Ophthalmology foundation exam offers a chance for residents and even consultants to gauge their knowledge in a very structured and well-formatted online exam. As for me, I am currently a Surgical retina fellow still actively training at the Singapore National Eye Center, who decided to take part in this exam as a means to strengthen my opportunity in applying for the IOFF-OF subspecialty fellowship. I am grateful to have come across the Ophthalmology foundation website when I was actively looking for funding opportunities. I highly recommend their exam most especially to graduating residents.

Good exposure to international exams
For a person practising ophthalmology in a third world country, a lot of questions were things I have only read on and not necessarily seen. A lot were also on world standards so its imperative to read widely. However, the time was adequate and the question pictures were very clear. It was good exposure to international exams and am very grateful for the opportunity.

Well crafted and structured-staged examinations
The Ophthalmology Foundation exams is well crafted and structured-staged examinations the cover all aspect of ophthalmology specialties, in the light of general ophthalmology. It is appropriate not only for ophthalmology residents at different stages of the career progression, but also for qualified and practising Ophthalmologists. My wish and advice is that Ophthalmology Foundation Executives and policy makers should as a matter of urgency and necessity make the fellowship certificate recognizable other notable professional bodies like Royal Colleges of ophthalmology, GMC, Ireland, Australia,USA, etc.

Exceptionally well-organized and intuitive to navigate
I had the opportunity to sit for the Ophthalmology Foundation Examination in Clinical Ophthalmology on the 26th of March, and I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the organizing body for the highly professional and efficient manner in which the exam was conducted.
The online examination platform was exceptionally well-organized, intuitive to navigate, and technically reliable. Clear instructions were provided ahead of time, and the interface facilitated a smooth experience from start to finish. The technical support team was readily accessible and responsive throughout the exam session, which contributed greatly to a calm and focused environment.
I am particularly grateful for the clarity of the language used in the questions and the logical flow within each case. The scenarios were realistic, and the options presented required careful reasoning, encouraging candidates to apply knowledge rather than rely solely on memorization.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the examination committee and the technical team behind the platform for their dedication and excellence. Their efforts truly reflect a strong commitment to upholding high standards in ophthalmology education and assessment.

After being in medical practice for over 35 years, I came across the Ophthalmology Foundation. I thought I would use their exams as part of my continuing medical education found that preparing for these exams was a good way to refresh and update my knowledge of contemporary ophthalmology. A great way to assess fundamental knowledge and clinical understanding
I had the opportunity to take Steps 1 and 2 of the FIOF examination on March 26th. The process was seamless and well-coordinated. I truly appreciated the excellent communication from Nicola Quilter and Vicky Glossop, who ensured we had all the necessary information regarding the exam schedule, location, and requirements well in advance. The examination was thoughtfully designed, covering all the essential core topics in ophthalmology. It served as a great way to assess fundamental knowledge and clinical understanding. I’m now looking forward to completing Step 3 and am excited to be among the first few candidates to receive the FIOF title. This initiative is a commendable step toward setting a global benchmark for ophthalmic certification.

A well-structured and engaging exam
I am writing to sincerely thank you and your entire team for organizing such a well-structured and engaging exam. I was very pleased with the experience. The questions were particularly interesting, and I genuinely enjoyed answering them. I would also like to express my gratitude to the supervising professor, who was very kind and assisted me promptly when I encountered technical issues during the exam.

Achieving FIOF Status
The examination was a well-structured and professionally designed assessment of ophthalmic knowledge. I took the exam at the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOA) headquarters in Istanbul, where the environment was organized and supportive. An invigilator and technical support team were present, and I used the TOA-provided computers without any technical issues. I found the questions to be objective and fair, with a strong emphasis on visual interpretation. I particularly appreciated the large number of image-based questions, which reflect the inherently visual nature of ophthalmology. It is a true honour to have achieved FIOF status. I would like to sincerely thank the OF examination team and TOA for their efforts and support.

From the Turkish Ophthalmology Society
We are thrilled to have participated in the recent exam organized by Ophthalmology Foundation. We truly believe that this will help to strengthen the partnership within eye care professionals and academic development of young ophthalmologists. The new online exam format provides a more practical way of application and the the team gave excellent technical support in the background. It would be more practical if candidates could use their own computers and financial support would be provided for test centers. Many thanks to organizers who have spent countless hours for their hard work and dedication.

A Host Center Perspective
The Department of Ophthalmology at Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg/Saar, Germany hosted the first round of the new OF Exams this March. We have been very excited beforehand to see how the new online exams are perceived by participants. On the day, exams ran smoothly with technical support constantly on hand and initial queries regarding the online system could therefore be resolved immediately. Our participants were able to take their exams within the given time frame and were very happy with the implementation and support on the day of the exam. We are looking forward to host the next exams in September.

A perspective from a Rwanda exam center
From my perspective as an Exam Centre Coordinator, collaborating with the Ophthalmology Foundation for their examinations was exceptionally smooth. A key factor was the outstanding support from their exam coordination team – communication was consistently prompt, clear, and detailed, ensuring we were always well-informed and prepared. The online format was managed seamlessly; the platform provided was not only convenient logistically but also demonstrably secure. We received positive feedback from our candidates regarding the exam platform itself – they found it user-friendly and faced no challenges during their exams. Finally, the efficiency in releasing results deserves special mention; the quick turnaround has been greatly valued by the candidates at our centre.

Bravo to the Ophthalmology Foundation
The Ophthalmology Foundation’s first exam was a success—and even better, it was conducted online, making the entire process efficient and cost-effective. Eye Corps was proud to sponsor two candidates, and we’re grateful to the OF team for making everything so simple and seamless. Bringing testing online is one of the most cost-effective measures available. It allows sponsors like us to stretch our donations further and support even more future leaders in eye care. Thank you!
