Accreditation of ophthalmology resident training programs is essential to ensure that educational programs meet defined standards of quality. The Ophthalmology Foundation’s International Ophthalmology Training Program Accreditation will focus upon evaluating and refining programs, protecting the resident’s education, and ultimately improving patient care.
Programs can receive Basic Non-Surgical Accreditation, representing the minimum requirements for training, including a robust surgical wet lab training program. Advanced Surgical Accreditation can be achieved by programs graduating residents who are competent to perform basic ophthalmic surgical procedures.
