Workshops on Group Mentoring and Simulation

The Ophthalmology Foundation was pleased to support Dr. Helena Prior Filipe, chair for Continuing Professional Development and Simulated-based Education sub-committees, at three workshops in August and September 2024.

The International Association for Health Professions in Education (AMEE) took place 26-27 August 2024. The workshop was an initiative of Mentors Across Borders led by Dr. Subha Ramani and was entitled: Navigating mentoring challenges and promoting successful mentoring relationships: A workshop for mentors in health professions education.

Dr. Helena Prior Filipe was further the discussant in a “Point of View” session that offered two topics: Is it feasible to use solicited audio diaries as a reflection tool in faculty development to support teacher identity formation? and Navigating Medical Education 2.0: The Internet’s Role in Shaping Competency-Based Assessments using DICE (Digitally-Integrated Clinical Exams).

The 68th Brazilian Congress of Ophthalmology (CBO) was held 4-7 September 2024 in Brasília. The Ophthalmology Foundation was pleased to again co-organize the CBO Conference for Educators. In a continuum of last year’s conference, the focus was on Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs). In this twofold session, participants were invited to explore Challenges for implementing EPAs in Ophthalmology and how to overcome them’  to afterwards delve into a hands-on practice on building EPAs and implementing a competency-based curriculum of training within Post Graduate Medical Education.

The 42nd Congress of the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons) in Barcelona, Spain, was held 6-10 September 2024. This year’s program focused on delivering invaluable insights on the latest cataract and refractive surgery developments. The OF was proud to present, along with workshop co-chair Dr. Alja Crnej, a symposium on Advancements in Learning Cataract Surgery. A Symposium in Health Professions Education.
