The Ophthalmology Foundation would like to thank all those who participated in our Leaders in Education course in Malaysia. The Ophthalmology Foundation Education Consortium (OFEC) worked with the Malaysian Universities Conjoint Committee of Ophthalmology (MUCCO) Program Chairs, Nurliza Khaliddin, MD, and Mohd Aziz Husni, MD, to schedule multiple 2-day workshops and online coursework over the last two years.
The Leaders in Education program designs needs-based courses with the goal of improving the educational effectiveness of participants. Education Committee members worked with MUCCO educators to develop a course focused on improving teaching and assessing in a clinical environment or operating room.
Online resources and assignments were made available to participants through the OFEC Campus website. The presentations and interactive assignments were meant to be thought-provoking exercises that were complemented with 2-day online sessions in 2021 and 2022 and a 2-day in person workshop in late February of this year, where group discussion and breakout sessions furthered the opportunity to learn from experienced ophthalmic educators.
The Ophthalmology Foundation would especially like to thank our volunteer Education Committee members Helena Prior Filipe, MD, MMEd, Karl C. Golnik, MD, MEd, Eduardo Mayorga, MD, and Gabriela Palis, MD, for organizing the course; OFEC volunteer educators Catherine Green, AO, FRANZCO, MMedSc, MSurgEd, Meenakshi Swaminathan, MD, Mae-Lynn Catherine Bastion, MBBS, FRCS, DrOphthal, Nurliza Khaliddin, MBBS, FRCS, MOphth, MMed (Ophthal), Jeff H. Pettey, MD, MBA, and Vanitha Jeyaraj, MD, for their contributions in teaching the course; and host organizers Nurliza Khaliddin, MD, and Mohd Aziz Husni, MD.
